Architectural History and Heritage Background

Perched at 3,300 meters in Upper Pisang within Nepal's Manang region, the Pisang Story House was originally a century-old traditional Tibetan stone dwelling. Its thick masonry walls and weathered timber entrance have quietly witnessed and safeguarded the daily lives, memories, and shared experiences of three generations of local families.

As the outmigration of rural youth intensified, the village's architectural fabric and living culture faced the imminent risk of fading away. Determined to keep these century-old Himalayan memories from disappearing into the wind, the Taipei JuJu MaMa Children's Education and Care Association joined hands with faculty and students from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech / NTUST) USR team in 2022 to officially launch this heritage revitalization project.
A seven-Year Interdisciplinary Journey

Spanning seven years of cross-border collaboration and high-altitude field challenges, the restoration brought together diverse professional expertise:

• Spatial Surveying and Structural Retrofitting: The Taiwan Tech team conducted comprehensive spatial surveying, structural health evaluations, and retrofitting works, creating a durable exterior envelope built to withstand the harsh alpine climate.

• Electrical and Low-Voltage Infrastructure: GOIN International engineered a reliable power network and low-voltage electrical systems, establishing essential energy infrastructure for sustained high-altitude operation.

• Regional Culinary and Pastry Development: Citrus Pâtisserie developed exclusive pastry recipes and baking guides tailored to regional crops, showcasing locally harvested Manang produce such as highland apples.

Overcoming logistical bottlenecks and extreme mountain weather, the building launched its soft opening in July 2026, followed by its official grand opening on August 4, 2026.
Core Mission and Multifunctional Value

The revitalized Story House was never intended as a static architectural restoration; rather, it was conceived to re-enter the daily pulse of village life, serving three vital community roles:

1. A Cultural Sanctuary for Heritage Preservation

   Preserving century-old Tibetan stone masonry traditions, the house exhibits everyday vernacular tools, traditional dress, and recorded oral histories, functioning as an enduring repository for Upper Pisang's cultural heritage.

2. A Global Trekkers' Hospitality and Exchange Hub

   Serving as a welcoming public living room, the space invites international hikers and local villagers to gather over hot tea, fresh-brewed coffee, and warm handmade apple pie, fostering organic intercultural dialogue beneath snow-capped peaks.

3. A High-Altitude Community Resilience and Relief Base

   Equipped with reinforced structural integrity and dedicated electrical circuits, the Story House doubles as an emergency community shelter, ready to supply shelter, essential resources, and emergency communication during adverse weather or unforeseen crises.

Standing proudly at 3,300 meters beneath the Annapurna peaks, with the welcoming aroma of freshly brewed coffee and hot apple pies drifting through its stone halls, the Pisang Story House begins its next century of stories alongside the people of Upper Pisang.
