A team of faculty and students from NTUST collaborated with the Taipei Zhuzhu Mama Children's Education and Care Association in July 2024, led by Associate Professor Po-Chien Hsiao from the Department of Civil Engineering, to carry out practical work in Nepal with 13 students. Their original plan was to rebuild a collapsed stone house into a storytelling house in the town of Pisang, located in the Manang region of Nepal. However, due to continuous heavy rains that destroyed the roads leading to Pisang, the team, prioritizing safety, changed their plans and went to Pharping, a suburb southwest of Kathmandu. There, they built a natural and safe handcrafted pathway for a local orphanage to reduce the risk of slipping on muddy slopes. The team worked collaboratively to level the sloped ground, manage gravel, and lay stone slabs, while utilizing traditional Paiwan construction techniques to build a stone staircase connecting the orphanage to the driveway.

In addition, the NTUST team also visited Kathmandu University and Tribhuvan University for academic exchanges. They toured facilities such as a learning tunnel, real-life dam models, bridge models, cement curing areas, and concrete labs, gaining hands-on experience in hydropower engineering. NTUST also plans to sign departmental or college-level memorandums of understanding with the two universities to lay the foundation for future international collaboration.
