On July 16, 2024, a team from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) visited Pharping, a suburb southwest of Kathmandu, to construct a handmade trail for the Bodhichitta Development Society orphanage, showcasing NTUST's active role in the international community.

During this activity, the NTUST team demonstrated a spirit of collaboration by leveling the slope, handling gravel, and laying stone slabs. Notably, team members also taught the children at the orphanage to participate in the trail construction, providing them with valuable hands-on learning opportunities. Utilizing traditional Paiwan techniques, the team built stone steps that successfully connected the orphanage’s grounds to the roadway. Throughout this process, students not only gained practical experience but also developed their coordination and communication skills, deepening their connection with the local community.

To adequately prepare for this trip to Nepal, NTUST students traveled to Jiujiaping Village in Pingtung in June, where they learned trail-building techniques and experiences in collaboration with the Taiwan Thousand Miles Trail Association. This series of preparatory efforts laid a solid foundation for the team's practical work in Nepal.

At the conclusion of the activity, NTUST students took a commemorative photo with the newly constructed trail, symbolizing their hard work and achievements in community service. This experience not only enhanced the students' professional skills but also allowed them to appreciate the importance of giving back to society, further deepening their understanding and practice of social responsibility. Through such exchanges and collaborations, the NTUST team contributed to creating a natural and safe living environment for the local community, demonstrating the academic world’s commitment to social responsibility and international vision.
