2024 Students from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology went to the Jiuping Tribe in Pingtung for training on the Handicraft Trail.
In 2024, a team from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) collaborated with the Taiwan Thousand Miles Trail Association to participate in the construction of a handmade trail in Jiujiaping Village, Pingtung. This activity aimed to learn trail-building techniques and experiences while laying a foundation for future international projects.
During the event, local Paiwan community members enthusiastically guided us, teaching traditional stone construction techniques. This included how to build stone retaining walls, select suitable stones, level slopes, and handle gravel and stone slab installation. These traditional skills not only reflected the cultural wisdom of the Paiwan people but also allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the essence and significance of handmade trails.
Although we prepared thoroughly before our visit to Jiujiaping Village, we still faced numerous challenges. The geological conditions in Nepal differ significantly from those in Jiujiaping, requiring us to adapt flexibly to varying environmental factors during the learning and implementation processes. These challenges fostered collaboration and communication among team members, enhancing our ability to respond to unexpected situations.
Through this experience, students not only acquired valuable practical skills but also deepened their awareness of social responsibility. This activity provided us with essential skills and knowledge for our upcoming fieldwork in Nepal, while also helping us appreciate the importance of cultural exchange and social service.

That's soooooos great!
