2025 NTUST International Volunteer Team: Installation and Optimization of Disaster Prevention Maps in Upper Pisang
Site Survey and Preparation
After arriving in Upper Pisang on August 4, 2025, the team conducted site surveys to determine suitable locations for installing the disaster prevention maps. On August 5, we revisited the selected locations to check the surrounding environment, prepare the tools needed for installation, and began setting up the maps.

Community Integration at the Prayer Wheel Area
The installation process required consideration of both practical construction issues and respect for the local environment. In the prayer wheel area, an important gathering place for the local community, we carefully selected a spot to install the map without disturbing the space. Since there were no existing boards or walls available, we attached the map to two nearby pillars. Through simple gestures and communication with local residents, we received their approval to place the map there, ensuring it could be easily seen by people passing by.

Overcoming Structural Challenges at the Story House
At the Story House, the walls were made of solid stone, making it impossible to use nails. To solve this problem, we inserted small wooden wedges into the gaps between the stones and used them as anchor points to secure the map. This approach allowed the map to be installed safely while avoiding any damage to the structure.

Adapting to Field Conditions and Future Planning
During the installation process, we also discovered that one of the originally planned locations had been demolished and replaced with a new structure. Although this was unexpected, it highlighted the importance of flexibility during field projects. We documented this change and plan to update the disaster prevention maps in future visits to ensure the information remains accurate and useful for the Upper Pisang community.
